Governor of Tamil Nadu
Konijeti Rosaiah was a veteran Indian politician who served as the 15th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2009 to 2010. He was also the Governor of Tamil Nadu from 2011 to 2016, and briefly held additional charge as the Governor of Karnataka in 2014.
Born in Vemuru, Andhra Pradesh, on July 4, 1933, Rosaiah began his long political career as a student leader and later as a disciple of Swatantra Party leader N.G. Ranga. He was known for his expertise in state finances and held various ministerial portfolios under several Chief Ministers. A notable record he holds is presenting the state budget 16 times, including seven times in a row. He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) multiple times, as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) twice from Chirala constituency, and as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Narasaraopet.
He took over as Chief Minister following the sudden demise of his predecessor, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and worked to maintain political stability and continue welfare programs. Upon retiring from active politics in August 2016 after completing his term as Governor of Tamil Nadu, he stated his desire to lead a peaceful life. He passed away on December 4, 2021.
