We have been quite determined from the beginning that an office space, when we have one, should reflect what we hold close to hearts. We always wanted

buildings to stand out by blending in! And that’s why we designed this office space the way we have – as if the earth came up and branched out into making tins

spaces for its natural inhabitants, or as the mud that grew out of mud, it is a place made with as much love as with water, earth, a piece of the sky! This is a building

which we envision, will grow organically along with us like a living being & What is built is just what is necessary for the current functional requirements.

WHY RAMMED EARTH?

Palakkad is a hot region with temperature reaching 40 degree Celsius during summer. The site was a barren land where there were no trees. Global warming and

contribution of construction sector in worsening it, has reached a stage that it cant be ignored. With our practice we always strive to bring down the guards In people’s

minds about the unsubstantiated fears of fragility of our own maternal like mud and bamboo and this we felt as a perfect stage to we that dependence to people how building with these local materials & construction practices can even the building. & Rammed earth is a technique less explored which suits the modern aesthetics, one of the strongest in earth televotes same time one of the roost energy efficient and thus eco-friendly.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Natural slope is utilized to form the access steps which acts also as an open air treater and the open sit-out is planned to serve as a stage whenever such gathering happens. The sit-out is a floating deck on a water-body which is part of a water treatment system connected with the internal pond. Sit out opens to a hall where the initial discussions happen, The work spaces of the founders are planned in the same room. Wash room is next and the corridor leads to the workstations of the tear adjacent to the slit courtyard with the second water-body. The level difference of the land will reflect here as two steps level up. The store small kitchenette is at the other end of the corridor which opens to the side yard.

BUILT VOCABULARY

Earth walls, bomb pillars and partitions, clay tiles, oxide flooring, up cycled wood and broken laterite which is considered as a waste in nearby quarries comprise the prominent vocabulary. Kerala has mostly been spared when it comes to natural calamities and during the construction we have experienced the first flood of our times. Roofing before rtW1soon was our plan but that year’s rains held on till monsoon and our mud walls were left open in rain for 6 months.has thus been marked by rain and that is exactly why we used rain also in the theme when it came to designing the interior, The rain pattern in the shutters is been created by parametric design with random equation.
