Krishnarao Jaisim
Ar. Krishnarao Jaisim is an acclaimed Indian architect and the former chairman of the Indian Institute of Architects, Karnataka Chapter. He completed his architecture education in 1966 from Madras University and, inspired by Ayn Rand’s novel The Fountainhead, he founded his practice, Jaisim-Fountainhead, in 1970.
His architectural philosophy is characterized by a commitment to eco-friendly, cost-effective, and energy-efficient designs that are in harmony with nature. Jaisim’s work often incorporates local materials and traditional techniques, and he is known for his individualistic and iconoclastic style. Over his career, he has designed a wide variety of projects, including homes, institutions, and commercial buildings. Some of his notable projects include the TAJ Fisherman’s Cove and his own home, “Anthem” in Bangalore, which was designed to be a revelation in sustainable design.
He has received numerous accolades for his work, including the J.K. Award—Architect of the Year in 1992 and the Life Time Achievement Award for Outstanding Performance in the field of Architecture in 2007. Jaisim is also a prolific writer and has authored over a hundred papers and articles on architecture.
