Ar. Kenneth Amunsimiire

Ar Kenneth Amunsimiire , Uganda

Currently Member, Board of Practice & Ethics, East Africa Institute of Architects, Member, Board of Practice *Uganda Society of Architects Member,Board of Research and Development, Uganda Society of Architects Chairman, Entare 89-92, Old Boys Foundation Holds a Bachelor in Architeture from Makerere University 2000. Certificate in PRINCE 2 (Management of PRojects IN Controlled Environments). Has been trained in Alternative Dispute Resolution methods; namely Arbitration (entry level), Mediation and FIDIC procedures by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch). Currently a Corporate member of the Uganda Society of Architects, serving on the Boards of Practice and Research &Development after serving in different capacities on the leadership team for 6 years at both national and the East Africa region level. He joined Infrastructure Design Forum and participated in various private and government- funded building projects. Is currently Director and Principal Architect in Space and Places Ltd, an architectural firm in Kampala, Uganda.

Ar. Brian Muhwezi

Ar. Brian Muhwezi 

Representing Uganda from the foreign participating countries is Ar. Brian Muhwezi from Kampala, Uganda.  

Ar. Brian did his Bachelor of Architecture from Makerere University of Kampala and presently he is doing his MSc in Project Management from University of Liverpool.  

Ar. Brian Muhwezi  has 13 years of experience in active practice.  He has gained diverse experience from a multitude of projects in those years working with both Symbion Uganda Ltd and Code Infrastructure Group. He is now a director at Code Infrastructure Group. His work includes private residences to public institutions both social & commercial.  He has also worked on number of projects for the Government.  

Dr. Vandana Sehgal

Representing North India, the Jury member is Ar. Dr. Vandana Sehgal from Lucknow, U.P.

Dr. Vandana Sehgal is an architect, an artist and an academic. As an academic, she has been teaching architecture since 23 years. She is currently the Principal and Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Planning, AKTU. Lucknow. 

Ar. Vandana writes regularly in journals on theoretical aspects of architecture, cultural theory, pedagogy and practical design issues.

As an artist, she has done solo shows ‘Between Spaces’ ‘Ramayana’ ‘Lucknow- ek nazar’, The Woman and Krishnaa” and has participated in group shows with various artists all over India. She has painted Illustrations for reputed authors and publishers. She has curated many exhibitions like ‘White on White’, ‘Sanctums’ etc.

Ar. Jacqueline Namayanja

Jacqueline Catherine Namayanja, born on December 14, 1985, is a Ugandan architect, deeply committed to sustainable architecture and community development. Graduating from Makerere University, class of 2011, Jacqueline has excelled in managing diverse projects, specializing in cultural, hospitality, educational, residential, a nd commercial sectors.

With a passion for uplifting the lowest-income communities, Jacqueline envisions transforming ‘slums’ into sustainable and affordable living spaces, utilizing modern and rudimentary technology. Her skill set includes architectural and interior design, restoration projects, landscaping, and proficiency in various design software.

Jacqueline’s professional journey began at J.E Nsubuga & Associates, where she played a key role in projects such as the Kasubi Royal Tombs Reconstruction and residential and commercial designs. Later, she ventured into academia, teaching architectural design theory and history at the International University of East Africa.

Since establishing her own architectural practice in 2017, Jacqueline has contributed to numerous residential and commercial projects, emphasizing attention to detail and environmental considerations.

Simultaneously, she has taken on leadership roles, serving as a committee member on the Board of Practice, later as Vice President and currently as the President of the Uganda Society of Architects and the President of the East Africa Institute of Architects, 2023-2024.

In this capacity, she leads initiatives like the CSR project for vulnerable children in Mukono, showcasing her commitment to community service

She also recently chaired the Jury of the National Building Control Awards, an initiative of the National Building Review Board (NBRB) and the Uganda National Action on Physical Disability (UNAPD) , a team of over 21 technical experts of the built environment.
She is also part of the Jury of the AAK Duracoat Architectural Awards due to be held in Nairobi Kenya on 29th Feb, 2024.

Jacqueline’s bio reflects not only professional achievements but also her dedication to making a positive impact on society through sustainable architecture. Guided by her Christian faith, she sees Christ Jesus as her anchor and guide in all endeavours. Her story is one of dedication, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of a better Uganda and world for all.
