Name & Location : GREEN VALLEY, KOLENCHERRY, KERALA

Cost of Project : (INR) 4 CRORES

Built-up area: 620 sq. m.
(In case of Public Building minimum built-up area should be 1000 sq. meter) RESIDENCE 15 A SINGLE

Description of Project:

The Green Valley residence is a single storey unit locatedon a 1.35 acre property. This four bed room unit is self sufficient in terms of its power requirement. The building has been designed around the landscape. A lot of priority has been given to landscape. The roofing system is a composite one which has external aluminum and internal timber. All the light fixtures used are LED based. Rain water is also harvested at the site through percolation channels and underground storage wells.

Materials of Construction Details:

All the materials used for construction of green valley are available locally. Emphasis  is made on incorporating  the importance of local workmen and materials. Woods, bricks, concentrate, steel, aluminimum and glass are used  for the construction  of green valley.

Green Architecture Features:

The eye-catching roof of this residence has been designed with a single gutter, in the centre, that collects all the rainwater.

Solar panels are installed in a North-South orientation, tilting towards South, so as to catch the maximum solar light thereby significantly cutting down external energy use. The roof is designed such that these panels are not visible.

All the glasses that have been used are double glazed which reduce the heat gain optimally. Also the glasses have been recessed by providing overhangs that also help in reducing heat gain during the day.

Additionally, these double glazed glasses have been supplemented with louvers. This helps in controlling the daylight.

Large pivoted windows are provided on either sides of the corridor to maximize cross ventilation. • These windows also allow the interiors to be lit up naturally during the day.

All the materials used for construction of this residence are available locally. Emphasis is made on incorporating the importance of local workmen and materials.

The orientation of the residence helps the courtyard and other semi private areas to be shaded effectively during the day.

Elaborate Landscape has been designed to form several catchment areas covered by stones for the rainwater to percolate.
